Marg is hard to replace for a specific reason: it encodes a distributor’s working habits, not just their accounts. Anything you shortlist has to handle batch numbers, expiry, credit control and the route — and most general accounting products do not, whatever the feature list says.

Strong on trading, multi-godown stock and batch handling, and familiar to anyone coming from Marg. It keeps the desktop model, so it solves feature complaints rather than reach complaints.
Capable and universally supported, but it does not encode a distributor’s day the way Marg does. Expect to configure more and to lose some scheme handling entirely.
Worth saying plainly: neither handles batch and expiry the way a pharma distributor needs. QuickBooks does not do batch tracking at all. If expiry dates drive your business, these are not on the shortlist.
Batch, expiry, FEFO picking, serials, multi-godown transfers and recall-in-one-query, with the route, the payroll and the ledger in the same product. The two honest gaps: there is no Marg importer, so migration is a CSV exercise with our team, and portal filing is not wired yet.
Realistically Busy or tBiz, depending on whether you want to stay on a desktop. General cloud ledgers like Zoho Books and QuickBooks do not handle batch and expiry to the depth a pharma distributor needs, and it is better to hear that before a trial than after one.
Probably, at least in part. Marg’s pharmaceutical scheme handling is built to trade conventions that generic products do not replicate, and this is the single thing to test hardest before committing to any alternative.
Not directly — there is no Marg importer. Parties, items, batches and opening balances come across as CSV exports with our team running the first import, which normally takes under a week.
Yes. Where a batch has an expiry date the earliest-expiring stock is suggested first, near-expiry stock is reported per warehouse, and a recall resolves to every customer who received a batch in one query.
There is no direct Marg importer in any of these products, ours included. Parties, items, batch stock and opening balances move as CSV, and it is normally a week of work done alongside your existing system.
Put a fortnight of real batches and one van salesman through it before you decide anything.
